Mumias East Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Salasya has assured his constituents and followers that neither wealth nor popularity has altered his personality.

In a statement shared via his Instagram on Saturday, November 23, 2024, the legislator noted that he remains grounded despite his position.

Salasya shared a video alongside a video of himself interacting with construction workers in his constituency.

In the post, he expressed his joy at returning home and connecting with the people who have supported him throughout his journey.

“Just landed in Mumias at home, and vijana are happy for me. Aki mimi pesa haijanibadilisha. I am still the same Petero they knew before. Content ya ku make them happy ndio imechange…youths are happy,” he wrote.

Salasya’s success

The lawmaker has always been open about his humble beginnings, never shying away from sharing his story with his followers.

On August 10, 2024, he shared a photo of his family home from two years ago—a modest structure that housed his mother and twin siblings before he rose to political prominence.

In his post, Salasya described the difficult conditions he faced at the time, mentioning that his home lacked essential features like windows and sufficient ventilation. He shared that he often slept on the floor as he didn’t have a bed.

The MP, who rose to prominence after securing his parliamentary seat with the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K), also posted an image of a double-cabin pickup truck provided by DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa for his campaign. The picture reveals his mother’s humble home in the background, though he noted that his own house, where he used to sleep, isn’t visible as it was located a bit farther away.

Hapa ndio ilikuwa nyumbani and our house two years ago. That house is ours, belonging to my mother and my twin brother and sister wenye wananifuata. Yani, our last born ndio walikuwa wanalala hapo kangu kako chini kidogo hakakuwa hata na dirisha na sikuwa na kitanda nilikuwa nalala chini true story. Indeed, no one should lose hope in life,” Salasya shared.

“Anything is possible; just keep trying and being hopeful. You are going to change your home through your career or business you are chasing today. God is faithful; just believe him in your heart and work hard and sacrifice what we call foregone cost opportunities in business studies,” he added.
