Masauti responds to claims of being a lazy musician
By Steve Ireri, September 18, 2025Singer Masauti has responded to claims that his absence from the music scene and failure to release hits consistently meant he had quit music or lacked seriousness in his craft.
Speaking during an interview with a local radio station on Thursday, September 18, 2025, Masauti revealed that rapper Khaligraph Jones had recently acknowledged his talent but also expressed concern over his failure to release songs consistently.
He confirmed that the observations were accurate but strongly rejected the notion that he was lazy.
“Yes, it is true I saw that Khaligraph also said he sees that I have talent, but he wonders why I do not release songs constantly. Truly, he said, I have talent, but I am lazy. But on that, you know everyone has their own pace in life,” he said.
According to him, every artiste moves at their own pace, and he has been navigating personal challenges that slowed him down.
“The way he is moving with his life is not the same as how I am moving with mine, and I also have my own plans and there were things I was doing until people thought that I was going slowly. I truly admitted that I was not consistent on social media, that is true, but I cannot call it laziness as you call it,” he added.

He noted that life circumstances had at times left him heavy and unable to produce music, emphasising that these struggles were personal and not tied to love or relationships.
He explained that he has never allowed romance to disrupt his focus or affect his work, but admitted that family responsibilities and internal issues had weighed on him and delayed his progress.
“There were things that were holding me back, you find yourself heavy until you cannot do other work. And these are internal matters that I cannot say. And they are not issues of relationships. In fact, for me in my life, the one thing that has never disturbed me is love. I cannot allow someone to disturb my mind until I fail to do my work. That I reject completely.”
Masauti further pointed out that as the main pillar of his family, he was often forced to resolve domestic issues before pushing his music career forward.
This, he said, meant he had to make music at the pace he could manage, even when fans expected more frequent releases.
“So things were disturbing me, but they were not love-related; they ranged from family to music. You know in my family I am the one who is depended on, so there were issues that I first had to solve at home before I could continue. So I was doing music at the pace I was able to.”
Management
The singer also addressed questions about his lack of a management team despite being a prominent artiste.
He stated that he operates as an independent artiste, working with a few trusted individuals rather than a structured management team. He explained that while management can be helpful, he believes that what truly matters is having a good team around an artiste.
“And on the question of whether my team failed me in managing those things, the truth is I do not have a team as such, but I have a few people that I work with. I do not have management. I work by myself as an independent artiste. The reason I do not have management despite being a big artiste is that I believe it is not only management that helps an artiste to reach where they want, but when you have a good team, things move forward,” he said.

He disclosed that many people had approached him with offers to manage his career, but their terms did not align with his vision, and therefore, the arrangements never materialised.
He maintained that his independence has not hindered his growth and that he continues to plan and build his career on his own terms.
“Many people have approached me to be my managers, but the agreements were not right, so they did not succeed.”
