Kush Tracey reveals why she shared her skin bleaching experience

Gospel artiste Kush Tracey has revealed her reason for publicly sharing her experience with skin bleaching, saying it was about creating awareness and sparking honest conversations about beauty standards.

In an Instagram post on Monday, she shared an interview aired on Sunday, August 11, 2025, in which she candidly discussed the choices she made earlier in her career.

She captioned the video: “We had such an insightful panel conversation talking about skin bleaching as I shared part of my experience to create awareness of this particular [issue].”

During the interview, Kush Tracey explained that at the time she bleached her skin, she was trying to match society’s beauty ideals.

“I wanted to become more beautiful, I wanted to become attractive according to the standards,” she said.

Lack of self-awareness

She admitted that a lack of self-awareness, combined with her role models’ influence, made it easier for her to follow the trend.

“Later on, I realised if you do not realise who you are, and you are not self-aware, you are going to do a lot of things to fit into the system. I used to be a secular artist, and some of my role models had gone through skin bleaching. Based on people I was looking up to, the women that I adored are doing this…it was more of fitting in the best you can. If it’s about skin bleaching, I would do it,” she recalled.

Kush Tracey said she wanted her story to highlight how these pressures can push people into making changes they later regret. She hopes that by being open about her journey, others will feel encouraged to question and resist unhealthy beauty standards.

Since leaving the secular music industry for gospel music, she has embraced her natural complexion and says her faith has played a big role in redefining her sense of self-worth.

Her decision to reshare the interview has sparked discussions among fans, many of whom praised her vulnerability and echoed her call for self-acceptance. For Kush Tracey, the conversation is not about her past mistakes but about using them to inspire others to embrace who they truly are.
