Former Citizen TV reporter Kimani Mbugua has, yet again, been admitted back into rehab following a lack of significant improvement in his mental health condition.
This is according to a video shared by YouTuber Trudy Kitui on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, who even met and interviewed the ex-journalist about how he felt about the situation.
In the video, Kimani does not say much at first. He appears taken aback when he realizes that Trudy is filming him and asks to confirm if the recording is live.
Trudy assures him it is not, and Kimani relaxes, sharing his thoughts about the process of being whisked back to rehab in just a few months.
He said he felt energized but admitted he did not know why they were there, what time it was, or how he felt, and that, frankly, he did not care much about anything.
“I’m energized. I don’t know myself why we are here, I don’t know why we are here. I don’t know what time it is. I don’t care about anything. I just wanna go back to my house in Thika. Yeah, I just wanna go back to Thika and chill. And be there forever and ever and never get out of that house,” he said.
A heavy burden
While speaking to the YouTuber, Kimani explained why he wanted so desperately to go back home, despite being taken to rehab. He said it was because he carries a heavy burden.
He also mentioned that a friend had accompanied him for support.
The team, which included Oga Obinna, his security officer Victor Munez, Kimani’s father, and two men, who Trudy said were his brothers, then got into their cars and headed for the rehab center.
The video captures their drive along Thika Road before arriving at Mathare Teaching and Referral Hospital. YouTuber Trudy Kitui followed them, narrating the events as they approached the gate, pointing out that the car ahead carried Kimani, his father, and his brothers.
Kitui added that Kimani’s father had discussed the situation with Oga Obinna in a prior interview, and they agreed that returning him to rehab was the best course of action.
She also mentioned that Kimani had been scheduled to travel to Mombasa but would go to rehab first.
Being judged
After being asked by Trudy to share his thoughts on Kimani’s situation, Oga Obinna’s bodyguard, Victor Munez, expressed sympathy, calling it a heartbreaking case.
He revealed that Oga Obinna had offered Kimani a job that would have started immediately but had to be shelved because of his ongoing health issues.
“We’re praying for him so God can heal him quickly. Kimani is a big deal, and we all need him. Even you need him more. That’s your godfather right there. You know, the boss had promised him a job, but this guy…let’s hope for the best,” Munez said, urging Kenyans to stop judging Kimani and instead offer their prayers and support.
