Kenyan hip hop legend Jua Cali whose real name is Paul Julius Nunda is sharing tips to fellow artistes in the industry on how to be successful.

Jua Cali who has led a thriving career in the entertainment industry has challenged upcoming artistes to practice hard work and consistency.

He says one needs quite a number of quality tracks to shine in the already flooded industry and to actually make money out of music.

“If you want to make money from live performances, normally lazima ukuwe na mziki tatu ama nne kwenda juu, to at least perform for like thirty minutes. Msanii mwenye ako na mziki moja, atalipwa pesa ya mziki moja, you have to be patient and consistent. Fans, promoters and corporate are always watching,” he noted in an interview with a local TV station.

Further, the 42-year-old rubbished ongoing chatter about music cartels claiming that artistes use it as an excuse to run away from reality and as a window for blame game.

“Cartel ni illusion yenye artiste ame-create, human beings wanapenda kurusha blame. The only way an artiste will reap the benefits is through his/her hard work, consistency…at which rate are you releasing good songs?” he posed.

In a past interview, Jua Cali revealed that he once received a fat cheque of Ksh700,000 for a single overnight performance.

While speaking to comedian Oga Obinna on his Youtube show dubbed Kula Cooler, he said that the aforesaid payment, which he received in 2012, was the biggest cheque he has ever bagged throughout his career.

“What’s the highest amount of money you’ve ever been paid for a performance? (Not an endorsement, just getting on stage and killing a show),” Oga Obinna posed.

The Hip Hop legend then replied; “I was given a cheque of Ksh700K back in 2012, it was a corporate show.”
