Gengetone rapper and former Boondocks Gang member Maddox has set the record straight on claims of him dealing with drug addiction.
This comes after content creator Oga Obinna came out to urge his fans to pull resources to help the Madoxx come out of the drug jail and deal with his addiction after he was spotted looking sloppy and drugged-out around Mirema area in Nairobi, last year.
“We come together, pull our resources and put him on rehab for a year,” Obinna said.
But in his response, Madoxx refuted the claims noting that he was not a drug addict, he clarified that contrary to the claims, he was battling starvation from lack of funds.
The once-popular rapper also explained that his financial woes escalated because he would not get paid from their music even as the more-popular members; Xray Taniua and Odi wa Murang’a – got their pay.
He recalled an instance where a reknowned company purchased their song and paid Ksh500,000 but he received nothing from the total amount paid.
“Oga Obinna as you can see i’m not addicted, niko sawa, first thing i’m not a fan of drugs, labda drugs ndio zilikua zinanitumia, lakini mimi sipendi kuzitumia, sai nimeachana na drugs kabisa; mimi labda nikue ambassador wa maji na soda. Ukiniona pale kwa streets si kwa sababu niko addicted natumia drugs, ni kwa sababu pesa yangu sikua napata, tunaenda studio tunatoa wimbo, Exray analipwa, Odi analipwa mi silipwi,” he narrated.
“Nliona hio video ati nimechizi niko Mirema nikashangaa, nikasema that’s a lie. Kuna time Exray alikua ananiandikia mangoma, tulienda nayeye tumefanya ngoma flani biggy sana, ilikua tu upload lakini hio company, it’s a very big company, wakasema wanataka kubuy hio ngoma, walibuy Ksh500,000 na hakuna kitu nlipata.”
Asked whether he got support from people during his darkest hour, Madoxx acknowledged his fans suppport saying they helped buy him food
“Mafan hawajai sahau, nlkua nakaa street nastarve, napata fan ananipatia Ksh500 nikunywe chai, yaani nilikua naishi by the grace of people.”
In his response to the rapper’s remarks, Oga Obinna wrote; “Haya 🙏🏾 All the best bro.”
