If you thought that the Ciru Muriuki-Ciku Muiruri beef was over, think again.

After topping headlines last week for a public spat over an online name mix-up, BBC journalist Ciru Muriuki on Monday said that she will not go out of her way to bury the hatchet with Ciku.

Without naming the ‘Busted’ radio queen, Ciru made it clear that she is not interested in talking about the public squabble any longer.

“Learn to be okay with people not knowing your side of the story. You don’t have to prove ANYTHING to ANYONE,” read Ciru Muriuki’s post.

She gave her subtle ‘Subaru’ just an 8-word caption, “Pretty much sums up the last few days.

Ciru became a hot topic after social media mistakenly blasted her for Ciku’s comments about Tob Cohen and Sarah Wairimu – ostensibly because of the similarity of their names.

Ciku claimed on social media that she knew the Dutch tycoon and his widow, asking fans to buy her book, Love is But a Dream, at the end of the post. Social media users went on the offensive, accusing Ciru – not Ciku – of taking advantage of Cohen’s death to promote her book.

What followed was a colourful online exchange, one that Ciru says she is no longer willing to engage in.

“I don’t have to do anything and I have done nothing to anyone. I won’t solve a beef I didn’t instigate. And I won’t change a name given to me by my parents to please anyone. That’s the last I’ll say about this,” Ciru said in response to a fan asking her to reach out to Ciku.

Ciku: Don’t ride on someone else’s name

While Ciku is yet to publicly respond to Ciru’s Monday post, she had earlier accused the BBC journalist of ‘riding on her name’.

“I did my first radio show in 1998. In my many, many, many, years on radio doing Busted etc I have used my name. On my newspaper columns, I have used my name. On my book #LoveisButADream and all my social media pages, I have used my name. Someone comes onto the scene many, many, many years later, has and uses a name similar to mine and now cries victim every time she is mistaken for me,” wrote Ciru.

In the post, that has since attracted over 500 comments, Ciku said she drew the line when accusations that her tweet was affecting Ciru’s brand negatively surfaced.

“I refuse to be used as a punching bag when you found me here, minding my own business. If you want your brand to stand out, the first logical step is NOT to ride on someone else’s name and then cry foul when it no longer suits you,” she concluded.

Ciru fired back on Twitter.
