Former Tahidi High star Miss Morgan reveals struggle with depression and alcoholism
By Valerian Khakayi, August 14, 2025Former Tahidi High actress Angel Waruinge, widely known as Miss Morgan, has opened up about battling with depression and alcoholism after leaving the famous Kenyan high school TV series.
In a candid conversation with media personality Alex Mwakideu in an episode uploaded on his YouTube channel on Thursday, August 14, 2025, Miss Morgan said that in 2020, at the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, she was not aware that she was depressed and making bad choices.
She went on to say that society has high expectations of public figures, which can be overwhelming.
“You are famous; you are a public figure. There is this expectation that society is expecting from you, you know, get overwhelmed,” she disclosed.
“When I hit the hard place, it was corona time. Kumbe, we were closing down as an industry, and we were not aware. Kumbe Angel at this point ako na depression na hajui she is picking up wrong choices.”

Alcoholism and depression
In addition, the talented actress further admitted that at her lowest point, she picked a coping mechanism to deal with the expectations of society.
“This is what happened, and I’m not blaming anybody for anything. I took so long to be at Tahidi High. I joined in 2006 and left in 2016. I took it for granted,” she revealed.
“I picked up coping mechanisms because we were the only big thing, and there are these expectations, and I, as Angel, have always been that person who has been all alone, so you are now living up to the expectations of society.”
Furthermore, Miss Morgan added that she went through depression and later turned to drinking alcohol as a coping mechanism.
While battling with depression and alcoholism, the mother of one revealed that she also battled with suicidal thoughts, which she says were coming when I was sober
“I went through depression and a coping mechanism, which was not right; it was alcoholism. I thank God haikuwa ile I want to kill myself, but I thought of those suicidal moments, but there was no point,” she revealed.

“I thought about it when I was drunk. I only thought about it, how I was picking up choices and then coping with alcohol to suppress my depression.”
She says her drinking habit started as a coping mechanism, which later turned into an addiction.
“It was a coping mechanism which started as a habit and ended up as an addiction,” she added.
Turning point
Miss Morgan added that she made a bold step and called her mother to ask for professional assistance to deal with her addiction and depression.
“I said I needed help, and the first person I called was my mother. I told her this is not me , this is not who I am, I told her I need therapy,”she stated.
