Sauti Sol lead singer Bien and his wife Chiki ‘Kuruka’ Onwukwe have a very ‘strange’ marriage which defies the conventional principles of a union between a man and a woman in a typical setting.
The celebrity couple tied the knot in March 2020 and a year later Bien raised eyebrows when he suggested he was in an open marriage before he denied it all in subsequent interviews.
In June 2021, word went around that Bien and Chiki were in an open marriage after the singer made some remarks on the Sol Family show.
“Me and Chiki have this thing where if I ever meet my celebrity crush somewhere and I am in a situation where my celebrity crush wants to ‘engage in coitus’ with me, then so be it and vice versa.
“I don’t have a problem with it if that is what she wants, she should get it. You can’t stop a human being from doing that. But also I can’t catch feelings, I’m after her happiness,” Bien said.
Speaking during an interview on Radio Maisha in November 2021, Bien categorically stated that his wife and him were not in an open marriage.
“Open relationship gani? Mimi nko open minded, siko in an open relationship nko open minded,” said Bien.
He added that;
“Inaweza niuma by the way, naweza kufa nkiskia dem wangu ati msee alimkata… naweza die. Siko hapo ata mentally.”
Nothing wrong with open marriage
However, Bien noted that there was nothing wrong with open marriages/relationships. He said that he wouldn’t mind getting into such an arrangement when his marriage runs low on intimacy.
“Nko mature enough kubelieve that manze you will never be everything to human being for the rest of your life. Open relationship haina ubaya. So mimi naambia wasee manze musikae kwa hizo relationship (closed relationship without intimacy), tafuta happiness yako uko nje. Ukifika 50 wewe na husband yako sex is the least of things in your relationship. Your relationship is about so many things it’s about the things you build together. Na mukifika 50 kama hamko kwa hio intimacy manze tafuta hio intimacy kwingine ukifika huko,” Bien said.
Bien once again reiterated that he is not in an open marriage while speaking during an interview on NTV on Friday, December 17, 2021.
“Guys I’m not in an open relationship. I’m not in an open marriage. I actually speak for people who are married because first of all, if you are not married don’t ever comment about my marriage because you don’t know how it feels,” he said.
Bien added that his relationship with Chiki goes beyond the energy of sex.
“My relationship with my wife is all about what we are building together in terms of our dynasty, what we are building together in terms of our generational wealth and what we are doing together to leave the world a better place,” Bien said.
Vasectomy
Bien opened up about his desire to get a vasectomy while speaking on his YouTube podcast with content creator Dr. Reign and rugby player-turned-TikTok cooking sensation Dennis Ombachi.
Bien said he will get a vasectomy because he doesn’t want to subject his wife Chiki to the pressure of taking birth control pills.
“A lot of men are not willing to have vasectomies but I am. I’m willing to look into a vasectomy. I’m tired of putting this burden on our chicks. First of all, I know different contraceptives have different side effects,” Bien said.
Bien likewise opened up about being pressured by a section of his fans to impregnate his wife having been married for only 18 months
“Hata mimi Wakenya wameniangalia weird, I’ve stayed karibu for 18 months na sijafanya kitu lakini kila kitu na time yake. I have never really had the urge to reproduce! So it’s never really bothered me,” he said.
Wedding ring
In an interview with SPM Buzz, Bien said he replaced his actual wedding ring with a tattoo after losing it.
Bien noted that he tends to lose items and went for a tattoo as a permanent replacement for his lost ring.
“I lost my actual ring! I had it but it got lost and I chose to have a tattoo instead because it won’t go anywhere and also I feel I have a bad relationship with items. I feel like you can’t attach value to an item. People get angry when they see their lovers not without their wedding rings, why? They are not a dog that you put a leash on them,” he said.
Lap dance and strip clubs
Bien opened up about going to a strip club while speaking about the woman who twerked for him and who was later chased away by his wife Chiki.
Bien explained that Chiki only chased away the lady because she was twerking for him at the wrong time.
He insisted that Chiki has no problem whatsoever with women twerking for him since they both go to strip clubs to get lap dances together.
“Huyo dem ni fan. How fans behave, let fans be fans. It’s just that the timing was off. I actually don’t think if that chick came and twerked on me and Chiki was just there and there was no activity I was meant to be doing like going on stage, I don’t think Chiki would have told her to leave.
“Angekuja tu anitwakie na aende zake. Kwani ni mara ya kwanza nimetwakiwa? Mimi naendanga strip club na Chiki tunapewa lap dance sisi wote wawili na tunaenda home. Ehhh, we are cool like that so Chiki did her job very well,” Bien said while speaking during an interview with SPM Buzz.
He added that; “Ata huyo dem siku ingine akiniona akuje tu a twerk bado timing ikiwa poa. Read the room.”
