Comedian-cum-philanthropist Eric Omondi has lived up to his promise of transforming the life of a Kisii woman who was brutally beaten over the theft of wheat flour from her neighbour’s house.
Through online fundraising, Eric purchased a plot of land in Nairobi for Faith Kathambi and began constructing a modern bungalow to ensure she never returned to the life of despair she once endured.
In a video shared by the comedian, who has recently hinted at venturing into full-time activism, on Monday, January 27, 2025, Eric is seen walking hand-in-hand with Kathambi as they toured the half-completed house.
The duo inspected every corner of the home as construction workers worked to finish the project.
For Kathambi, the scene felt nothing short of a miracle—a moment plucked straight out of a movie.
Flour incident
Kathambi, who is deaf, first captured the nation’s attention when her harrowing story aired on a local TV station on January 16, 2025.
In the viral clip, she was seen being dragged out of her house by her neighbor’s husband and a group of men before being marched into their compound.
What followed was nothing short of appalling as the man began kicking her with ruthless force before grabbing a stick and continuing to whip her mercilessly.
All the while, her young child stood nearby, frozen in terror as the mother’s cries of pain echoed through the compound, leaving netizens to sympathize with him.
Kenyans step in
When Eric saw the video, he sprang into action, tracking down Kathambi and rallying Kenyans to contribute to her cause.
He shared her phone number and urged his followers to donate whatever they could to help change her life permanently.
In just two days—by January 18, 2025—the donations had skyrocketed to Ksh 876,000.
Buoyed by the generosity of Kenyans, Eric encouraged even more contributions, revealing his ambitious plans for Kathambi: starting a supermarket business, building her a secure home, and helping her return to school after dropping out years ago.
Eric set a target of Ksh3 million to fund all these life-changing projects.
“We are at 876K! Thank you so much team Sisi kwa Sisi. We have opened an account for her and deposited the money. I am requesting that we buy her a piece of land and build a house for her because as of now she wouldn’t be safe back where she was. Please keep sending whatever you can to her. Tumfikishe 3 Million Next week tumjengee,” he wrote.
Furniture donation
In a separate video shared today, Monday, January 27, 2025, Eric introduced a Nairobi woman named Cate, who announced that she had donated new furniture for Kathambi’s home.
The video showed Cate revealing a plush blue sofa set and a chic Chester bed, which she added to the growing list of donations.
Seated on her new bed, Kathambi looked visibly moved, while Cate explained why she stepped in: “Wakenya nawambia venye tuliona hii story ya Faith ilitushika. Especially now that we are in the 21st century, mtu kama Faith anapigwa juu ya unga. So tukasema lazima tumsupport.”
