Stand-up comedian and emcee Vincent Muasya, popularly known as Chipukeezy, is breathing fire after a section of social media users threatened to cancel him for working with the current regime.

In a video posted on his social media accounts on Tuesday, October 22, 2023, Chipukeezy stated categorically that he has no intention of quitting working for or associating himself with President William Ruto’s government.

Additionally, the comedian added that as an entertainer, if he is called to emcee at a government function he will not refuse to take the job so that he can please his online critics.

Voicing his frustrations, the comedian asked those attacking him how they have supported or contributed to the success of his entertainment career.

He further said that he is not a pushover and would not be coerced into doing something he does not subscribe to.

Sisi si ma pushover. Wacha tuishe but wewe tengeneza Kenya iko na harmony, Kenya iko na space for everyone even those who you do not agree with siyo lazima ukiona nmemake move yenye iko against your believe sasa unaanza kutaka kuniuzia uoga,” he added.

Chipukeezy faces backlash

Chipukeezy, who has been very close to Ruto, has been facing criticism from a section of online users over his association with the government. During the anti-government protests, the comedian faced the wrath of netizens after making a bold statement about the protests.

Expressing his concerns, Chipukeezy in a social media post urged for proper channels to effect real change, calling on people to get involved politically if they believe the country is on the wrong track.

He further warned that the nation stands to lose a lot emphasising the need for constructive engagement rather than destructive protests.

Our country is heading in a dangerous direction, and we stand to lose a lot if we don’t change course. We can’t build a nation by tearing it down. It’s contradictory to say we are fighting for the youth while harming their businesses and risking their lives. When young people raised concerns about the finance bill, the president withdrew it. This shows that constructive engagement works,” he said.

“Protests are creating a good platform for chaos and hooliganism whether it’s organic or paid, and it’s leading us down a destructive path. I am willing to be unpopular to speak my truth. Real change comes through proper channels. If you think the country is on the wrong track, get involved either by running for office or by voting for someone who will represent your views effectively when that time comes.”
