Tanzanian music superstar Ali Saleh Kiba, alias Alikiba, has called on older people, especially those above 80, to embrace life and find happiness, reflecting on the passing of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

Speaking from Nairobi on Saturday, October 18, 2025, where he is scheduled to perform on Sunday, October 19, 2025, Alikiba said that reaching advanced age is a gift and should be cherished.

“Once a person reaches 80 years and above, you must be very happy because old age is a gift,” Ali said.

The ‘Mapenzi Run Dunia’ crooner explained that life can be fragile, recalling that many people die young, sometimes in their early thirties, forties, or even teens, leaving behind unfulfilled dreams.

“There are people who die while aged three, four or even ten, still very young,” he added.

Alikiba contrasted this with Raila Odinga’s long life, noting that his passing at an older age carried lessons for those who have lived longer.

He highlighted that Raila had achieved a great deal, not just in Kenya but across Africa, where he is recognised as a prominent figure in the struggle for freedom, justice, and development.

“The pain is twofold when someone dies young. Our father has left us having lived a full life. He taught us many things and achieved a lot because all of Africa recognises him as a great man who fought for freedom,” Ali added.

Alikiba reflected that the late leader’s life provides guidance and inspiration for older generations, especially those who have actively fought for rights and progress on the continent.

He emphasised that older people should take the opportunity to be happy, appreciating the gift of age while learning from the experiences and legacy of leaders like Raila Odinga.

“He belongs among the elders who fought for justice and development across our continent,” he added.

The musician, who is among the global artistes mourning Raila’s death, also revealed that his upcoming performance will include a moment of silence to honour the former prime minister.

“During my show, there will also be a moment of silence for Baba Raila.”

Alikiba’s remarks come amid a period of national mourning, as Kenyans continue to pay tribute to Raila Odinga, whose death on October 15, 2025, in India has left the country in profound grief.
