Alex Mwakideu opens up on motivation behind his celebrity YouTube show
By Steve Ireri, August 30, 2025Media personality Alex Mwakideu has shared the motivation that drove him to launch his YouTube platform, where celebrities share personal experiences and life lessons aimed at inspiring audiences.
Speaking in a video shared on his YouTube channel on Saturday, August 30, 2025, Mwakideu revealed that the idea for the show was born out of persistent mentorship requests he received from young people throughout his career.
He said that many youths have often approached him with questions about finances, careers, and even relationships, asking him to guide them through different challenges. While he could not set up a formal classroom to offer mentorship, he felt compelled to create a platform where such conversations could take place on a larger scale.
“The reason why I started the YouTube channel where I host celebrities in the series I Wish I Knew is because throughout my career as a broadcaster, I have met many young people who tell me, ‘Mwakideu, can you be my mentor?’ or ‘Mwakideu, can you help me?’ I have been asked so many questions about relationships, finances, careers, and many other areas,” he said.
According to him, I Wish I Knew was envisioned as a space not only for his own lessons but also for the experiences of the celebrities he invites.
He has so far hosted artistes and entertainers, including Arrow Bwoy, gospel singer Daddy Owen, and comedian MC Jessy, with each guest offering their unique journey and insights to the audience.
On that, he said the show’s impact has been visible in the positive response from fans, who have embraced the discussions and shared their appreciation through comments and feedback.
“I said to myself that I cannot open a class to teach people those things, but I thought I could create a show. On this show, people will not only learn from me but also from all the guests I host. From Arrow Bwoy to Daddy Owen to MC Jessy, there is always something to learn from every person we invite,” he added.
He noted that he has been humbled by the interaction and assured viewers that he and his team are taking time to read and consider the advice and suggestions left in the comment sections.
He credited the viewers for making I Wish I Knew one of the fastest-growing YouTube channels in the country, adding that their support has been the greatest encouragement to keep the show running.
“That is the reason I started the show, and when I look at the comments, I am truly humbled. Thank you for watching and for all the feedback,” he added.
He further promised that the platform would continue to evolve, incorporating both lessons from his life and stories from other influential figures to help inspire and mentor the younger generation.
