Homa Bay Town Member of Parliament Peter Kaluma has accused United States Ambassador to Kenya Meg Whitman of pushing the gay agenda in the country.

This is after Whitman said the US will stand with the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or questioning (LGBTQ+) community in the country, amid a tough stance from the government blocking any attempts to legalise homosexuality.

The envoy, in a statement on her Twitter handle on Tuesday, said that in the past week, she met with the LGBTQ community and other stakeholders to support gay rights.

“The U.S. proudly advances efforts to protect LGBTQI+ persons from discrimination and violence and will continue to stand up for human rights and equality,” Whitman said.

Responding to the ambassador, Kaluma said Kenyans will not accept the agenda being pushed by Whitman in the country.

“The Universal Declaration of Human Rights talks about the rights of all human persons; men and women.
Kenyans will not accept that perverted ‘sexual orientation’ nonsense you’re pushing in Kenya!” Kaluma tweeted.

The MP has been critical of the LGBTQ community and efforts to legalise gay activities in the country.

Last month, he declared his intention to introduce a bill that will prohibit homosexuality and its promotion in the country.

“I intend to bring a legislation to criminalize and punish homosexuality and other unnatural acts and to further criminalize the promotion of such acts,” the MP said in a letter to National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula.

The legislation, Kaluma noted, will consolidate all existing laws relating to unnatural sexual acts.

According to the outspoken lawmaker, the proposed law will seek to increase the penalty for those convicted of engaging or promoting homosexuality to imprisonment for life.

“The proposed law intends to further the provisions of article 45(2) of the constitution of Kenya and to protect the family will not only consolidate all existing laws relating to unnatural sexual acts but also increase the penalty for those convicted of engaging or promoting the acts to imprisonment for life or commensurate sentence,” the communique read further.

The MP’s comments followed the Supreme Court’s ruling that allowed homosexuals to formally register their own association in the country.
