A 20-year-old man was on Monday, March 13, arrested in connection with a robbery with violence incident in Marsabit county.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Gayo Jattani was picked up by detectives from a house in Badassa village with Jaldesa location.

The suspect is then said to have led the police to a bush inside Marsabit National Park where an AK-47 rifle believed to have been used in the robbery incident was recovered.

The detectives also recovered a magazine with 30 rounds of ammunition during the operation.

“A further 33 rounds of ammunition, police jungle shirt, jungle belt and cleaning kit were also recovered,” DCI said.

The suspect is currently being held at Marsabit police station pending arraignment in court.

In a separate incident in Turkana, police on Monday recovered a consignment of goods stolen by bandits after an attack on a lorry that was heading towards Lodwar from Kapenguria.

The officers, who were acting on a tip-off from members of the public, responded swiftly and recovered assorted items among them, iron sheets, maize, and beans.

The lorry has been detained at Kainuk Anti-stock Theft Unit.

“We value the role played by members of the public in promoting safety and security,” the National Police Service said.
