A complainant against private investigator Jane Mugo has asked to be placed under the state’s witness protection, claiming that her life is in danger.

In an application made before Nairobi Chief Magistrate’s Court, Deepa Shah through her lawyer Thomas Maosa, said she suffered trauma at the hands of Mugo and is still terrified of her.

“I am asking the court to put my client under witness protection because her life is in danger,” Maosa requested Chief Magistrate Martha Mutuku.

The magistrate directed Shah’s lawyer to make application at the Witness Protection Agency and liaise with Director of Public Prosecutions office to ensure she is given protection.

The spy, who is facing two counts of threatening to kill, appeared before the court for her pre-trial conference.

Her lawyer Danstan Omari told court that the pre-trial cannot proceed since they have not been supplied with witness statements.

But the prosecution told the spy’s lawyer to pick the witness statements and documentary evidence for pre-trial on Tuesday.

The spy queen is charged with threatening to kill Shah at Kyuna Close in Spring Valley on February 4, 2019.

She is also facing a second count of threatening to kill Martin Mugusia in 2015.

According to court documents, Mugo is alleged to have drew her pistol and threatened to kill the Mugusia.

After pleading not guilty to the charges, the court freed her on a cash bail of Sh300,000.
