Flamboyant Kenyan artiste Karuga Kimani, popularly known as KRG The Don, now claims he was forced to push back his music release following the arrest of comedian Eric Omondi after staging a protest over the high cost of living outside parliament.
KRG while speaking to the press claimed he had to come to the aid of his colleague in the entertainment industry saying he stands behind Omondi’s move.
“Ngoma inatoka Tuesday ama Wednesday next week. We had to postpone juu ya haya mambo ya leo,” he stated.
Further, the artiste stated that while he would like to join in the protest, he would prefer to do it peacefully without any violence and preferably book an appointment with lawmakers to air out Kenyans’ grievances.
“Tukipata kitu ya kuandamana… why not? We are not coming with violence, unakuja kuongea. Mahali nahusika,I like to use my channels. If it’s going to parliament I know how to do it without teargas being involved. We don’t have to be 100 of us because now they will think we are a rogue nation,” he said.
At the same time, KRG The Don hinted at the title of the new song ‘Mambo Yamechemka’ – a viral phrase he coined.
He however stated that people are free to use the phrase and that he is not planning on trademarking it.
Omondi and 16 others were released by court on a cash bail of Ksh10,000 or bond of Ksh20,000 after denying a charge of taking part in an unlawful assembly outside Parliament over the high cost of living.
Appearing before Milimani Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina yesterday, they denied the charge of taking part in an unlawful assembly on Parliament Road, Nairobi, on Tuesday, February 21 in the afternoon.
In his latest antic, the funnyman has called on Kenyans without jobs to print their CVs and have them ready for the journey to StateHouse.
While dissociating himself from any political affiliation, Eric also asked Kenyans struggling to pay their rent to ask for official receipts from their landlords and have them ready for the procession.
“Calling on all Kenyans with CVs but without a JOB to print their CVS and have them ready, PARENTS without School fees to print fee structures, Families without Basic needs to write down a list of what they need, Anyone without rent, ask your LANDLORD to give you a printed copy of your Areas. We will take all this to STATEHOUSE,” he posted.
