Controversial lawyer Danstan Omari now claims that the summons towards him by the DCIO are purely based on a witch-hunt.
Omari who was speaking after interrogations over claims of giving false information on the alleged raid at the home of former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i in Karen said he is being targeted for working with Azimio supporters.
“It was not a crime when I was defending UDA members but it is now a crime when I defend Azimio members,” Omari said.
Omari summoned
This comes after the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) summoned him on Tuesday, February 21.
According to the summons seen by K24 Digital, DCI directed lawyer Omari to appear at the directorate’s headquarters on Kiambu Road on Wednesday at 9:30 am for interrogation.
Through Senior Superintendent of Police Micheal Sang, the DCI says it seeks to probe Lawyer Omari allegations of publication of false information contrary to section 23 of the Computer Misuse and Cyber Crimes Act 2018 amongst other offences in regard to the alleged invasion and raid of Matiang’i residence by allegedly a “battalion” of police officers on the night of February 8 and 9, 2023.
“I have reasons to believe that you, Danstan Omari, an advocate of the High Court, is connected to the offence or has information that would as me in my investigations,” Sang stated in the summons.
“I hereby compel you (Omari) to appear before me at DCI Headquarters Kiambu Road at Mazingira House on February 22, 2023, at 9:30 am without fail. Failure to comply with the requisition constitutes an offence liable to prosecution,” Sang added.
Omari’s summons came days after detectives raided the home of the former CS to collect CCTV footage as part of investigations over the alleged February 8 raid.
Matiang’i’s legal team claimed that the home of the former CS was raided by police. However, various agencies termed the reports as false even as the former CS was urged to prove the raid with video footage.
“Our preliminary findings have uncovered evidence of a well-coordinated and deliberate attempt to spread false information and incite public fear, unfortunately, spearheaded by a person of the standing of a former Interior Security Cabinet Secretary,” DCI stated in its preliminary investigations.
