A police officer attached to Awendo Police station in Migori is currently in custody after he allegedly shot and killed his colleague.

The officer identified as Sulubu is said to have murdered his colleague Elijah within the Critical Infrastructure Protection Unit armoury area in Awendo Sub County on Sunday, February 19 in the morning using an AK-47.

Confirming the incident, Suna East sub-county police commander Hesau Ochorokodi who is standing in for the county police commander said the suspect, a constable, was returning his firearm to the armoury after his night shift when he pulled the trigger on his colleague.

He said the bullet entered through the right side of the chest and exited through the left rib.

He was, however, rushed to the hospital but was confirmed dead on arrival.

The sub-county police commander said they are yet to establish the motive behind the killing.

Further, Ochorokodi noted that the suspect was nabbed immediately in his house after the shooting and he is being detained at Migori police station.

The matter remains under investigation.
