Ugandan opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine on Tuesday, February 7, 2023, sounded the alarm about his bodyguard’s abduction.

In a tweet, Bobi Wine said his bodyguard Geoffrey Ongima aka Tower had been abducted by thugs who were casually dressed.

Comrade Ongima Geoffrey aka Tower is the latest victim of violent abductions. Armed thugs dressed casually attacked him in Nansana, fired bullets and took him away in a ‘drone’. Not clear if he wasn’t shot. It will take the effort of WE THE PEOPLE- to put an end to this madness,” Bobi Wine tweeted.

However, Ugandan police spokesman Fred Enanga on Wednesday revealed that Bobi Wine’s bodyguard was in police custody.

According to the police spokesperson, Bobi Wine’s bodyguard had been on their wanted list since last year.

Enanga added that Wine’s bodyguard was arrested by CID detectives for causing grievous bodily harm to political activist Ivan Kamuntu Majambere who is allied with the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).

Geoffrey Ongima is said to have harmed Majambere in a fracas that happened during the burial of Sulaiman Jakana Naduli last year.

On October 24, 2022, a section of opposition NUP supporters clashed with a group of NRM loyalists at the burial of the late Nadduli in Kadunda Village, Nakaseke District, leaving Majambere and others with injuries.

The police spokesperson said Bobi Wine’s bodyguard will be taken to court soon as they continue with a serious manhunt for his accomplices.
