President Uhuru Kenyatta on Monday led Kenyans in mourning the seven pupils who were killed after a classroom collapsed at the Precious Talent School in Nairobi.

Scores of other students were treated and discharged from the Kenyatta National Hospital.

“My heartfelt condolences and deepest sympathies to families of the children affected by the tragedy at Precious Talent School in Dagoretti. Our agencies are taking urgent actions to contain the situation and alleviate further suffering,” said President Kenyatta on State House’s Facebook account.

His deputy, Dr William Ruto, also condoled families whose children died in the tragedy.

“Condolences to the families that have lost their loved ones in the unfortunate incident at Precious Talent School, Nairobi County. Quick recovery to the injured. Concerned agencies have been mobilised to address the situation. We must create safe spaces for our children to learn,” said Deputy President Ruto.

Orange Democratic Movement leader Raila Odinga also condoled with the affected families.

“May God grant them strength as they struggle with this tragedy. I wish all those injured a quick recovery,” said Odinga.

The school has been temporarily closed on orders from Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha.

Prof Magoha said the learners will resume their studies next week on Monday to give authorities time to ensure the school is safe.
