A 28-year-old man was on Tuesday, January 17, arraigned at the Malindi Law Courts for allegedly sexually abusing minors.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Patrick Mbauni alias Pat ARV has been harbouring four boys aged between 10 and 12 in his house in Malindi.

He was arrested on Wednesday, January 11, 2023, after the sleuths based at the DCI Academy intercepted disturbing content online, portraying the man abusing the minors.

The sleuths established that the suspected paedophile runs a football foundation in Malindi, which he has been using to lure innocent minors before engaging them in the beastly act.

“Medical tests later confirmed that two of the minors had been sexually abused,” DCI said in a statement.

Mbauni was arraigned before Malindi Chief Magistrate Elizabeth Osui and charged with two counts of defilement, four counts of child pornography and four counts of child trafficking.

He denied all the charges.

The magistrates directed that the suspect be held until February 7 when he will be presented in court for a pre-bailing hearing.

DCI’s Child Protection Unit has in recent months intensified the war against sexual abuse among minors.

In June last year, the directorate extradited a Kenyan national wanted in the United Kingdom for sexual abuse to answer to his charges.

Anthony Kamau aka Anthony Kinuthe aka Anthony Kinuthia Kamau had been on the run after jumping bail in the UK.

“Kamau is wanted at the Chelmsford Crown Court of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, to answer to charges of sexual harassment of minors,” DCI said then.

The paedophile is reported to have sexually assaulted underage girls within an 11-year period from 2005.

He was also charged with four counts of engaging in a non-penetrative sexual activity with one girl and another count of inciting an underage girl to perform a sexual act.

“The suspect who has been on the run for two years fled to Kenya from the United Kingdom after he was granted bail. However, detectives based at the Transnational and Organized Crimes Unit (TOCU) arrested him on June 17 and presented him before court, where the extradition orders were given,” DCI said.
