Tanzanian singer Benard Paul Mnyang’anga alias Ben Pol has apologised to his ex-wife Anerlisa Muigai days after revealing details of their failed marriage in an explosive interview with YouTuber Millard Ayo.
In a statement on Monday, January 16, the ‘Moyo Mashine’ hitmaker retracted his words, saying his intention was never to hurt Anerlisa but share his experience of their marriage.
According to the singer, he also wanted to articulate how his relationship with the Keroche heiress affected his mental health.
“I want to apologize for the things I said about my marriage during my series of interviews with Millard Ayo, which started broadcasting on the 13th of January, 2023.
“My intention was never to hurt but to share my experience of the marriage, an experience I take full responsibility for,” the statement reads in part.
He promised to be “more mindful and more constructive” while speaking about his “experiences” in the future.
“I recognize that my words were hurtful to my ex-wife and I apologize to her and to the public.
While I do want to continue to talk about mental health and speak about my experiences, I will strive to do so in a way that is more mindful and more constructive,” Ben Pol added.
In the interview, Ben Pol detailed weaknesses that led to his divorce from the Nero CEO, revealing that he never enjoyed the marriage.
In her effort to save her image, Anerlisa shared screenshots of messages sent by Ben Pol during the festive season saying, “she is tired of being looked at as a bad person.”
In the text, Ben while confessing that Christmas are not the same anymore, claimed that he was not with her because of her wealth.
“I want to let you know that I was never with you because of money, in fact during our relationship, it was the time that I was making the least money in my whole 12+ years career, but I was okay and I never complained about it,” part of the message read.
Anerlisa didn’t stop there as she went ahead to issue an ultimatum to her ex-husband vowing to expose him even more if he doesn’t stop talking about her in media interviews.
She warned Ben Pol that she was no longer his wife or friend, stressing that he should move on and stop having any hope of them getting back together.
“After a long calculated thought, I decided not to talk about my past relationship because realized it’s really not worth my time and I am better than that… but just to make something clear to Ben… it’s been 2 YEARS since we separated, I am NOT YOUR WIFE and clearly not your friend. Move on and stop hoping we will get back together. It will never happen. You know very well if I did an interview, sijui utaficha sura wapi?” Anerlisa wrote on her Insta stories.
Anerlisa further warned Ben Pol to keep off any topics about her, stressing that the Bongo singer should focus on his mental issues.
“So, to save you from embarrassment, KEEP ANY TOPICS ABOUT ME AWAY FROM YOUR MOUTH (even positive about me) and focus on your mental issues. My name can not be used every time you feel irrelevant or want to promote your songs. If the music career has failed, then look for a job or go back to school… DONE,” she added.
