A man has been charged with stealing his grandmother’s TV set and a woofer after she allegedly failed to give him money to celebrate Christmas.

Benvyuria Saidi, who appeared before Mombasa Senior principal magistrate Martin Rabera, pleaded guilty to the charges.

The court heard that Saidi requested his grandmother Maneno Chitangi to give him money to go merrymaking with his friends, however, the granny declined and the suspect threatened to teach her a lesson.

The following day, on Boxing Day, the suspect broke into his grandmother’s house and stole a Vitron TV 32″ inches and one woofer music system. However, as he left the house, the granny alerted neighbours who managed to restrain Saidi before police officers were alerted.

The stolen items were all recovered.

The particulars were that on December 26, at Vikobani area of Jomvu sub-county within Mombasa county he broke into the house of Chitangi and therein stole a Television set and one woofer both valued at 18,500 the property of Chitangi.

The matter will be mentioned on January 6 for sentencing.
