Needy students in Nairobi have found a gleam of hope after Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja on Tuesday, December 20, 2022, announced plans to sell school bags made out of his donated campaign billboards.

Sakaja stated that the bags will be sold at Ksh2,500 and the proceeds will be directed to needy children across the county ahead of the reopening slated for January 23, 2023.

The county head who donated the billboards to Anjiru program commended the group for their efforts expressing his utmost satisfaction with the final results of the products.

“Happy to see the final product from my campaign billboards. Women and youth groups in Nairobi used the recycled billboards to make school bags for our kids and earn a living. Through the Anjiru program, for very bag bought from them, one is donated to a needy pupil,” Sakaja said.

Interested buyers have been asked to purchase the merchandise through M-Pesa Paybill no: 600100, Account no: 0100003791108, Account name: Funkidz limited.

On their part, Anjiru program expressed that they were contented with the fact that they were able to lend a hand to needy children.

They also expressed their thoughts on the cons of manufacturing in the country acknowledging that the use of waste as raw materials lowers the cost of production.

“Manufacturing in Kenya is not for the faint of heart. One of our highest costs is raw materials. Using waste as a resource we are able to provide jobs to women and youth in Nairobi County,” the group said in a statement.

“Thank you very much Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja for your generous donation of the billboards,” the statement added.
