The Kiambu county government is planning to upgrade Gachororo Level 3 hospital to a Level 4 facility, to enhance service delivery to residents.
The currently dilapidated facility situated in Juja sub-county is the only one in the second most populated constituency in Kiambu, a situation that has, for a long time made residents suffer while seeking proper medical services.
The premise which is also a grazing ground for livestock has a run-down facility that has only been offering first aid services to patients forcing them to walk several kilometres for medical attention.
But governor Kimani Wamatangi has undertaken duties to transform the facility into a level four hospital with all the requisite equipment for better services to residents.
Wamatangi who was speaking in Juja stated that his government will start the upgrading process by establishing a maternity wing, introducing a theatre that will be responsible for conducting minor surgeries and constituting a board that will monitor its operations.
While decrying the situation of the facility, the county boss said his administration will move swiftly to ensure that the upgrading is done before March 2023 for improved healthcare services.
“The health centre that serves a huge population has been neglected for too long and the safety of patients is compromised since anyone can walk into the wards,” the governor stated.
Residents have been protesting over the poor state of the health facility including the lack of adequate equipment to serve the health demands of the locals.
Governor Wamatangi said his administration was mobilizing funds to rehabilitate the facility and put up requisite amenities.
Further, the county head revealed that his government had embarked on a plan to construct eight more healthcare facilities across the county as a way of devolving medical services in wards whose residents have been travelling far and wide to seek medication.
