PHOTOS: Siaya county stadium set for completion in March 2023

Phase one of Siaya County stadium will be completed at the end of March next year.

According to Governor James Orengo, the stadium will be handed over to the county and the people of Siaya in the next three months after the completion

“The roof of the stadium is being fabricated and the major civil works are nearly completed. Field works already done and awaiting compaction so as to host any international match,” said Orengo.

Orengo said the stadium is a key investment of the county whose key role will be to develop the immense talent that Siaya has.

Governor Orengo said he will continue with such developmental initiatives and other programmes in a bid to empower the youth of Siaya.

While inspecting the ongoing works at the stadium accompanied by Deputy Governor William Oduol and the contractors, Orengo said the stadium will be available to local teams and players.

The stadium will also be used for other art and cultural activities

“We are confident international teams would be very happy to have the match here in Siaya,” Orengo said, adding that he was impressed and satisfied with the work already done

20,000 capacity

Once fully completed, the 20,000-capacity stadium will also be able to host other track and field games as well as swimming competitions.

The stadium, which has been constructed to international standards at a cost of Ksh406 million has other facilities such as participating teams’ changing rooms and lounges.

The educational institutions in the county will be able to access the stadium during sports events like the regional and final sports games.

Present during the inspection were acting County Secretary Richard Owade, Tourism Executive Angeline Atieno Oduor, Education Executive Edgar Otumba, Governance executive Agunda Ochanda and Finance Executive Ben Omollo.
