The mastermind of a daring attack at Kipasi police post in Mbita, Homa Bay County has finally been arrested.
Police said that the suspect, 27-year-old Charles Nyumba Ongany, was arrested following an operation led by detectives based in Homa Bay county.
The detectives recovered one G-3 rifle loaded with 20 rounds of 7.62mm calibre.
“Charles Nyumba Ongany, 27, was arrested following a clandestine operation by sleuths based in Homabay, leading to the recovery of one G-3 rifle loaded with 20 rounds of 7.62mm calibre,” DCI said in a statement.

Guns buried
Police said they raided the suspect’s rural home in Nyando, Kisumu county after getting wind that the dangerous arms cache had been buried there.
“The detectives raided his father’s compound in Abuje village in Nyando Kisumu county and dug the compound in search of the firearms, after getting wind that the dangerous arms cache had been buried there. Following the early morning raid, the suspect’s father also believed to be part of the dangerous gang managed to escape the police dragnet narrowly. A manhunt for his arrest is currently underway,” Police said.

Kipasi Police Station
An undisclosed number of thugs broke into Kipasi police station in Mbita, Homa Bay County on the night of November 16, 2022.
Police said the robbery incident was discovered the following day when one of the officers attached to the station reported for duty.
The criminals took off with four guns and 110 bullets from the armoury.
Of the stolen guns were three G3 and one AK-47 rifle with serial numbers G3 S/NO. A3 6699056, G3 S/NO. 6593403, G3 FMP 402994 and AK-47 NO. 4913650.
At the time when they broke into the armoury, no officer was around the station but the inspector on duty realized later that someone had broken into the armoury.
Officers from the Mbita and Homa Bay police stations were immediately sent to the scene to investigate where they discovered that the gang accessed the armoury through the window.
