West Pokot Assistant County Commissioner (ACC) and a police officer were on Monday, November 14, 2022, arrested over the shooting of a barmaid in Kacheliba, West Pokot County.
Kongelai Division ACC Moses Ekisa and the Constable Isaac Oshome of Kongelai police post, while armed with an AK47 rifle, went to Liquid Bar at around 6 am and asked the barmaid, Miriam Nelimo, 28, to open and sell beer to them.
The commissioner, who is said to be having a love affair with the maid, then picked a quarrel with a man they found sitting with the woman.
They moved outside where the officer shot the woman in the stomach.
“The bullet entered through the lower abdomen and exited on her rear left side. After the incident, both the ACC and the Constable escaped from the scene using the former’s vehicle, a Toyota Fielder,” police said.
The victim was rushed to Kacheliba Sub-County Hospital before being transferred to Kapenguria County Hospital in a serious condition.
“A manhunt for the two was launched and they were later arrested. The AK47 rifled loaded with 29 rounds of ammunition was also recovered and kept as an exhibit,” police said.
