Man kills wife, son before taking his own life in Kirinyaga

Police in Kirinyaga West sub-county have launched investigations into a murder and suicide case that happened on Thursday, November 3 in Kibaratani village, Mwerua location.

In a police report, a man identified as James Kigoto Mbuyu is said to have killed his wife and son before taking his own life due to an alleged domestic fight.

It is said that the father of the said killer identified as Cyrus Mbuyu found his body dangling from a tree within a banana plantation just a few metres from his house after neighbours alerted him.

Mbuyu then proceeded to inform his daughter-in-law ( Kigoto’s wife) Phyllis Wanjira,40, whom he found lying lifeless on their bed with a deep cut below her left ear.

Out of curiosity, Mbuyu proceeded to the kitchen where he also found his 13-year-old grandson Jackson Kinyua dead with a deep cut on his neck.

The man later reported the matter to police station who visited the crime scene.

“Police officers from Baricho and DCI officers visited the scene and it was established that the deceased had murdered his wife and son before committing suicide at unknown time over domestic issues,” part of the police report read.

Adding

“The scene was processed by CSI personnel and the body has been taken to Karatina hospital mortuary awaiting autopsy to ascertain the cause of death. At the scene, murder weapons including a kitchen knife and an axe which have been kept as exhibits, were recovered.”

The matter remains under investigations.
