The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) is investigating Ken Mwige, Director General of Vision 2030 Delivery Secretariat over alleged abuse of office and violation of the law in the recruitment of three senior officers.
Mwige is said to have irregularly recruited the officers against a resolution of the Board which required the positions to be advertised. This has seen several Board members and staff record statements with the anti-graft agency.
Yesterday, it was the turn of Jane Karuku, the Chairperson of Vision 2030 and Rita Kavashe, a Board Member.
Karuku and Kavashe are part of the over 30 members of the Vision 2030 Board drawn from the public and private sectors.
Karuku is the Chief Executive Officer of East Africa Breweries Ltd while Kavashe is the Managing Director of Isuzu Motors.
EACC on two board members recording statements
EACC confirmed that the two were at Integrity Centre but downplayed their presence stating that it does not necessarily point to wrongdoing by the invited person.
EACC said that the two Board Members are not under any investigation.
“It is noteworthy that neither the Vision 2030 Board Chairperson Jane Karuku nor Board Member Rita Kavashe is under any investigation by EACC. Although they were invited to the Commission, they are not suspects in the matter” EACC said in reply to a tweet by a local TV.
K24 has since established that the suspect in the EACC investigation is the Director General, Ken Mwige.
