Police in Nairobi have arrested a 23-year-old robbery suspect after raiding his home and finding a homemade firearm.

John Kimani Muchina was arrested during a police patrol conducted in Maana area, Kayole, following a tipoff from members of the public regarding his suspicious activities.

“It was while on their usual patrol within Kayole’s Maana area that the Njiiru-based officers received information regarding a house frequented by suspicious characters,” a statement by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) reads in parts.

“In the dramatic 11:00 am incident, the sleuths immediately swung into action and raided the house busting the suspect off-guard. John was apprehended and a quick but detailed search was conducted in the premises,” DCI added.

During the arrest, police recovered a homemade firearm loaded with a live bullet, six pocket phones, a motorcycle, an insurance certificate sticker, motorcycle ignition keys, a vehicle, five empty wallets, mobile phone accessories, three waist porches and a gas mask.

Kimani was placed into lawful custody awaiting further legal action.
