President William Ruto revealed that there were several attempts to cause disunity after he was declared winner in the August 9, 2022, presidential election.

Speaking at Uhuru Gardens during the Mashujaa Day celebration, Ruto congratulated Kenyans for maintaining peace after the General Election.

The President said he was aware of several attempts by people who did everything in their power to entice and pressure a section of Kenyans to engage in criminal activity after he was declared the winner of the presidential race.

“I congratulate every citizen for their part in ensuring that the last General Election was peaceful. I know of attempts at divisions, disunity, confusion and even some who did everything in their power to entice and pressure our people to engage in criminal activity,” Ruto said.

Transparent election

The head of state also noted that the August 9, 2022, General Election was transparent despite being characterized by intense rivalry during the campaign period.

“But I also know that despite a competitive campaign period characterized by intense rivalry Kenyans resolved in unison to remain peaceful, united and compassionate. We set a new standard for ourselves, issues-based campaigns, transparent election and a peaceful outcome,” he said.
