Tanzanian model, Jacqueline Obeid, popularly known as Poshy Queen, says any man interested in marrying her should not approach her with the mentality that he would be required to pay millions of shillings as her bride price.
Poshy Queen says, contrary to what many might think, she “doesn’t want a man to pay hefty amounts of money on her” because “he would, most likely, use that price tag to demean, mistreat and control me”.
Speaking to Tanzania’s Amani newspaper, Poshy Queen said “most women whose bride prices were high, often end up in turbulent marriages because the men feel it is within their right to manipulate them [women]”.
She says the financially-loaded men, in most occasions, feel like they “bought a commodity from the market”.
“If I have a man who I love, and he loves me too, I see no problem marrying him without the man, necessarily, paying a hefty bride price. What we dearly need are the blessings of both our parents. When it gets to that point that he wants us to stay as husband and wife, I will be okay with very little money paid as my bride price,” said Poshy Queen.
“We have seen women, whose bride prices were Tsh30, 000 (Ksh1, 350), and they ended up in happy marriages. I dislike it when a man mistreats you day in, day out, and when you ask him why he does that, he tells you it is because it cost him an arm and a leg to marry you. When I am ready for marriage, even that man who comes to my parents with Tsh50, 000 (Ksh2, 250), will be able to marry me,” added Poshy Queen.
The model is one of the most popular faces from Tanzania, given her extremely curvy physique.
