Narok: 5 killed in 3 road accidents in less than 24 hours

It was a sad weekend in Narok after five people died in three separate road accidents along the Narok-Bomet highway in less than 24 hours.

The first accident occurred at Olonini area at around 2:00 pm Saturday, September 3. It involved an 11-seater Transline Galaxy Sacco matatu which was travelling from Kisii to Nairobi.

Confirming the accident, Narok South Sub-county deputy police commander Isaac Omare said the vehicle rolled several times after its left rear tyre burst.

The police boss said one male adult succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at Ololunga Sub-county Hospital while undergoing treatment.

The rest of the passengers and the driver sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Ololulunga Sub-county Hospital before they were transferred to Narok County Referral Hospital for further treatment.

The body of the deceased was moved to Longisa County Referral Hospital mortuary pending identification and autopsy.

3 killed at Siyiabei Bridge in Narok

In the second accident, three people died on the spot at Siyiabei Bridge black spot along Maimahiu/Narok road after several vehicles collided with a lorry.

Narok North Sub-county police commander Fredrick Shiundu said the driver of the lorry identified as Benard Mwaura was driving a lorry from a feeder road joining the main highway blindly from the right while facing Ntulele general direction. The driver was among the deceased persons.

“Without giving way to oncoming vehicles he hit another Lorry being driven by an unknown driver who also died on the spot which was coming from Narok general direction toward Ntulele direction,” Shiundu said.

One more person died at Tekero area along Narok-Bomet road on Sunday following an accident involving two Matatu’s and a lorry.

The vehicles involved belonged to Farasi Transport Sacco driven by Fred Mang’ra now deceased, another Matatu shuttle belonging to Transline Classic Sacco driven by Vincent Mosoti aged about 35 years and a lorry ferrying mattresses toward Narok town.
