Raging flash floods witnessed in Marigat, Baringo county have left residents counting losses after the floods swept off a number of properties.
The heavy downpour which was accompanied by a strong wind blew off the roofs of some business stalls, with some cars and houses within the town being swept away.
While confirming the incident, Obeta Sirma, Marigat Ward administrator told K24 Digital that the skies began leaking in torrents on Saturday evening.
He said that most affected places were within the market, around Marigat Secondary School and Budalangi with most affected persons being small traders and residents within the town.
Obeta hinted that a number of families have as a result been advised to move to safer areas.
“We have however notified residents to move to safer places in a bid to contain the situation that has left a number of residents homeless,” Obeta said.
Jane Jebet, a businesswoman at the market stated that all the goods she sells by the roadside were swept away leaving her in deep pain.
“I had just re-stocked but when the rains began, I did not expect this to happen. I tried saving some, but the floods were too much. The floods have taken all I had including my market stall and all my goods,” she lamented.
