Kisumu Governor Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o has asked the international community to safeguard Kenya’s democracy.
“We appeal to all progressive and democratic forces across the world to keep vigil and to mobilize all their resources to protect Kenya’s fledgling democracy,” he stated.
His statement comes ahead of the Supreme Court ruling in the presidential petition challenging President-Elect William Ruto’s August 9 victory.
While terming the August 9 presidential results as fraudulent, Nyong’o stated that he was hopeful that the apex court will nullify Ruto’s win.
At the same time, the governor assured Kisumu residents that there would be no changes in the state of affairs irrespective of the final verdict.

Demonstrations may occasionally be violent, requiring police intervention. Strikes and other protest activities related to economic conditions occur regularly,
“Out of an abundance of caution, the U.S. Embassy has imposed movement restrictions on U.S. government personnel in Kisumu. The State Department reminds U.S. citizens of the continued need for sustained vigilance,” part of the statement read in parts.
On his part, Nyong’o downplayed the remarks stating that Kisumu was a multiracial and peaceful community that cared for one another.
