Nandi County police commander has ordered an investigation into the murder of a 20-year-old youth whose lifeless body was found dumped on the shores of River Lemok on the border of Uasin Gishu and Nandi Counties.
20-year-old Kelvin Chirchir is said to have disappeared on August 17, 2022, and his lifeless body was found on the same day.
“We are informed he left his M-Pesa shop at Selia hurriedly after making very long calls only to be found dead after arriving at the scene. We noticed his left eye had been gorged out, he had bruises around his neck and his trouser had been torn from behind. The autopsy report indicates he had been sodomized. The report also indicates that an unknown chemical substance in his stomach that’s likely to be poison,” the deceased’s brother Dennis Kemboi said.
The deceased’s mother Pauline Biwot, who lives with a disability, says despite making reports at the Kipkaren Selia police station, no arrests had been made two weeks later.
“I know I am poor and no action has been taken by the police because of that. But as a family, we managed to raise Ksh5000 to fuel the police vehicle in order to move the body of the deceased to the Kimbilio Hospital Mortuary. But since then no statements have been recorded from us and neither have any arrests been made with the connection to the death of my son,” Biwott lamented.
Biwott says the family depended upon the deceased for their daily upkeep and they continue to live in fear since they are unaware why Kelvin had to be murdered in the most inhuman way.
“I suffer from hypertension and high blood pressure despite my disability. My son has been providing medications for me, he is the only one with a job among my children. We urge the police to arrest the culprits behind the death of my son,” Biwott pleaded.
