Police in Limuru, Kiambu County were forced to disperse locals who were spotted with jerricans following an accident at Kamandura involving an oil tanker.

Reports show that the accident occurred at around 1 am after the driver lost control before overturning.

Coincidentally, the accident happened just one kilometre away from the scene where an LPG tanker burst into flames as it was being hoisted in the Mutarakwa area.

The incident took place in February 2022. It left seven people nursing injuries and a number of vehicles were burnt completely.

This time, police were on the horizon to control the situation and prevent imminent tragedy.

There has been a number of tragedies involving oil tankers that dates back to 2009 January when at least 123 people died after a tanker exploded at Sachangwan, Molo along the Nakuru-Eldoret highway.

The tanker was ferrying 50,000 litres of unleaded petrol to Juba in Southern Sudan.

91 of them were burnt to death at the scene while 32 died in various hospitals.

It would only take two more years for a similar incident to take place in Nairobi in 2011 September.

The tragedy occurred after a spillage of an oil pipeline running through Sinai slums in Nairobi burst.

Locals ran to siphon fuel leaving 120 people burnt to death. 100 more were hospitalized with severe burns.

Later in 2018, 12 lost their lives following an accident involving a matatu and fuel tanker along the Eldoret-Webuye highway.
