The number of people who have died from the malaria outbreak in Baringo County has risen to 10 after three children succumbed in Akoret and Kulel villages.

About 10 villages have been hit hard by the malaria outbreak, with scores of people receiving treatment under trees and dry river beds which act as dispensaries.

The county administration has deployed health workers to the affected villages in Tiaty Sub-County but officials say they still need more for the expansive area.

Among areas hardest hit by the malaria outbreak are Krese, Korelach, Kulel, Kaghat, Kongor, Chesawach, Akoret, Chesotim, Lokis, Atirir, Kapau and Ng’aina.

Already, the county administration has appealed for aid from humanitarian agencies as the outbreak continues to bite.

The county has poor road network, telecommunication and insecurity in Kapedo area hampers movement of patients.

Patients have being forced to travel over 100km to Chemolingot in Baringo and Lomut in West Pokot since the 45km road through Kapedo is impassable.
