The family of Daniel Musyoka, who served as the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Returning Officer (RO) for Embakasi East, claims their kin was brutally murdered over elections matters.

Musyoka’s lifeless body was found by herdsmen in Kajiado county five days after he went missing. Family members identified the body as that of the missing IEBC official.

The body, which had injuries and marks of strangulation, was taken to the Loitoktok Subcounty Hospital Mortuary.

Loitoktok Subcounty police commander Shadrack Kiprono Ruto said preliminary findings indicated that the body could have been murdered elsewhere before being dumped in Kajiado.

Family claims late IEBC official killed for refusing bribe

Relatives of the slain IEBC official contemplate that the their kin’s integrity could have been the reason why his killers murdered him.

Musyoka’s brother-in-law, Jackson Muimi and his sister Ann Mbolu told a local daily that their kin was a God-fearing man and could have refused a bribe from his killers.

“We know who Daniel is, he cannot be compromised by anyone. I suspect that someone must have attempted to bribe him to change the numbers in the just-concluded election, and he refused,” Muimi said.

The two family members insisted that the slain Embakasi East constituency Returning officer was a honest person and he had no enemies.

Meanwhile, Embakasi East MP-elect Babu Owino has also broken his silence over the death of Daniel Musyoka.

Babu, through a post on social media, said he was saddened by the death of Musyoka and he sent sincere condolences to family, friends and colleagues.

“I am saddened by the death of former Embakasi East Constituency IEBC Returning Officer Mr. Musyoka. I send my condolences to the family, friends and relatives. I urge the relevant authorities to conduct thorough investigations and bring the culprits to book,” Babu Owino posted on Facebook.
