William Ruto’s win in the presidential election sparked impromptu street celebrations in different regions across the country.

This follows days of pent-up post-election anxiety that gave way to spontaneous street celebrations as the President-elect’s supporters cheered news of his presidential win.

Rallies by thousands of supporters of Kenya Kwanza from the Mt. Kenya region and his backyard in Bomet and Uasin Gishu thronged the streets to rejoice.

The announcement was made by IEBC chair Wafula Chebukati after a nerve-wracking six-day wait for results after polls closed on Tuesday, August 9.

Here are photos of celebrations from various regions including Bomet, Baringo, Embu, Meru and Murang’a counties.
