Tongaren Member of Parliament-elect John Murumba Chikati has finally tested victory 20 years after he officially joined the murky field of politics.

Chikati, contesting on a Ford Kenya party ticket, trounced DAP-K Secretary General Eseli Simuyu in the just-ended August 9, General Election.

According to official results released by Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), Chikati scored 28, 278 votes against his closest challenger Eseli Simiyu who polled 13, 511.

Chikati made his political debut in the 2002 General Election where he sought to vie for the Kimilili parliamentary seat.

In the 2002 elections, Chikati lost to former Trade and Industry Minister Mukhisa Kituyi before losing to Eseli Simiyu in 2007, 2013 and 2017 General Elections.

Chikati is however not alone in making history. Khamisi Abdi Chome who made his political debut in the 1997 elections finally won the seat after 25 years of failed attempts.

Chome maintained his vision of joining the elites and was not deterred by naysayers or the thought of spending a substantial fortune on a hopeless dream.

In the just-ended elections, Chome was declared the Member of Parliament (MP) for Voi constituency in Taita Taveta County.

Chome who contested on a Wiper Party ticket trounced the incumbent Johnes Mlolwa of Jubilee Party.
He amassed 9,418 votes while Mlolwa got 8,426 votes.
