Singer Kevin Kioko alias Bahati performed dismally in the Mathare constituency election after resisting pressure to step down in favour of a more popular candidate.

Bahati broke down in tears after Jubilee Party asked him to step down for Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) candidate Anthony Oluoch in Mathare parliamentary race.

The singer begged President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga to allow him to contest in the race.

“I wish to appeal to my President Uhuru Kenyatta and Baba Raila Odinga, please give a youth a chance to contest. I know Mathare has been zoned as an ODM zone, but for this one time, please give youth of this country a chance,” Bahati pleaded.

Bahati ultimately loses

Bahati finished third in a race to become Mathare MP after garnering 8,166 votes against the winner Anthony Oluoch who managed 28,098 votes.

UDA’s Bilian Ojiwa came second after securing 16,912 votes.

Earlier, Bahati had claimed in a post on social media that he had won the Mathare seat and was only waiting for IEBC to declare him the winner.

“Three days since voting happened 21 ballot boxes were tampered with. I have been waiting to be declared the winner and to be handed over the official certificate as the Mathare MP-elect,” Bahati wrote.
