Raila most preferred presidential candidate in Nairobi with 52 per cent – TIFA

A new survey has placed Raila Odinga of the Azimio One Kenya coalition party as the most popular presidential candidate in Nairobi at 52 per cent.

In the data released on Tuesday, August 2, 2022, Trends and Insights Africa (TIFA) research firm ranked Kenya Kwanza’s presidential flagbearer William Ruto second with an approval rating of 34 per cent.

Roots party candidate George Wajackoyah and David Mwaure of Agano party scored 5 per cent and 1 per cent respectively.

The firm conducted 520 interviews on August 1 across all the 17 constituencies in Nairobi. The poll’s margin of error was plus or minus 4 per cent.

Raila ahead in Kajiado

In Kajiado County, where 527 registered voters were interviewed, the survey placed Raila ahead of the pack with an approval rate of  47 per cent followed by Ruto at 39 per cent.

Coalition popularity

Raila’s Azimio coalition remains the most popular alliance in both Nairobi and Kajiado counties.

In Nairobi, the coalition enjoys 50 per cent popularity compared to Kenya Kwanza’s 28 per cent while in Kajiado, the Raila-led coalition leads with 47 per cent against Kenya Kwanza’s 33 per cent.

Ruto’s UDA party, however, emerged as the most popular political party in Kajiado at 31 per cent followed by ODM at 28 per cent. The ruling Jubilee party trails third at 9 per cent.
