Roots Party flagbearer George Wajackoyah has kept his word and stayed out of the Presidential debate, due to what he termed as discrimination by the media.

Wajackoyah was set to debate alongside Agano Party Presidential candidate David Mwaure in the first phase of the interview before the climax between United Democratic Alliance’s (UDA) William Ruto and Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Alliance’s Raila Odinga.

In a statement earlier, Wajackoya accused the media of having a predetermined outcome of the debate by painting the candidates on the basis of popularity,

“Roots Party would like to state that our presidential candidate Prof Wajackoyah will not attend the presidential debate because we will not subject the incoming President to the joke of an already predetermined debate,” Wajackoyah‘s Spokesperson Wilson Muirani alias Jaymo Ule Msee said in a statement on Tuesday.

“The media cannot decide the outcome of an election before the poll day. The notion that some candidates are trailing others or some leading others is baseless. We refuse to be counted as ‘others’ in this important democratic duty of seeking the presidency.”

Wajackoyah’s allegations

In an earlier interview, he complained that the plan to split the four candidates into two groups of the frontrunners – Azimio flagbearer Raila Odinga and Deputy President William Ruto, and him together with Agano party’s Mwaure was biased.

“I have credible information from those who are arranging for the presidential debate to hold a so-called mini poll so that they can pair Raila with Ruto and me with Mwaure, thinking that we are the most stupid,” Wajackoyah said.

“They are degrading me and Mwaure. Does it mean that we are the last remnants of society? I want us to have a head-on debate. What is wrong with all of us having the same podium,” he posed.

Wajackoyah momentarily showed up at the Catholic University of East Africa where the debate is being held before he left minutes before the actual debate started.
