Residents of Nyota Muchorwe Village in Molo Sub-County, Nakuru County were on Wednesday evening (August 21) shocked, when police exhumed the body of a 26-year-old woman after her lover, 38, confessed to killing and burying her four weeks ago.

The suspect, Geoffrey Kipkurui, on Wednesday 6pm led police officers to Bargeret Forest in Molo, where he interred Daisy Chebet’s body after murdering her over allegations of infidelity.

As police exhumed Chebet’s body from the shallow grave dug 300 meters from Kipkurui’s house, tens of onlookers attempted to attack the suspect.

Police, however, rescued Kipkurui from the irate crowd.

The suspect, a charcoal seller, told police that Chebet, his girlfriend of two years, was a “perennial cheater, who spent most of the nights outside our house”.

Kipkurui said on the fateful night four weeks ago, he and Chebet had had an altercation, which resulted in him fatally assaulting the 26-year-old.

Molo Sub-County Police Commander, Isaac Odumbe, said the suspect, who was arrested on Tuesday, August 20, will be charged with murder once investigations are concluded.

Chebet’s elder brother, Erick Rotich, said they suspected something was wrong with his sister when she failed to visit her children (aged 11 and 12), who stay with their grandmother (Rotich and Chebet’s mum).

Rotich said his sister was a cabbage trader in Molo.

Ann Wangui, the deceased’s friend, described Chebet as a “humble lady, who detested quarreling with people”.

Police took Chebet’s body to a Molo hospital morgue for postmortem, as the deceased’s family embarks on funeral arrangements.

Kipkurui is being detained at Molo Police Station.
