A suspected Alshabaab militia was on Sunday, July 17, 2022, arrested in the Milimani area of Lamu County by General Service Unit (GSU) Officers.
The arrest came after an intelligence-led operation to flush out Alshabaab militants hiding in the Boni forest.
Preliminary investigations indicate the arrested suspect is among the group that had planned a failed attack on the National Police Service(NPS) recently.
The suspect had a gunshot wound on the left leg above the ankle, after apparently being wounded in the foiled attack.
The police recovered a cache of weapons including an RPG, a booster launcher, and an RPG heat warhead from the suspect.
“During the meticulous operation, our officers recovered 1 RPG, 1 RPG heat warhead, 1 booster, and 2 booster housing,” NPS said in a statement.
The suspect has since been placed in custody as security teams pursue his accomplices believed to be holed up in the Boni forest.
Al-Shabaab militants killed
In March this year, two Al-Shabaab suspects were killed during an operation in the Boni forest.
The area has been under operation for years as the government seeks to remove terrorists in the area and their remnants in the region.
