Tabitha Karanja, the owner of alcoholic drinks manufacturer, Keroche, has been arrested.
Tabitha Karanja was arrested at the firm’s plant in Naivasha on Thursday afternoon by DCI detectives.
The sleuths used the billionaire’s phone signal to track her to the manufacturing plant, where she was allegedly hiding for hours.
Ms Karanja and her husband, Joseph Karanja, are accused of Ksh14.4 billion tax evasion.
In an interview on Citizen Television at 9pm on Wednesday, August 21, Ms Karanja said she “won’t surrender herself to police because she hadn’t received a formal order summoning her”.
Ms Karanja denies being involved in the multi-billion shillings tax fraud.
According to the businesswoman, the tax evasion allegations are being used by her competitors in the beer industry to push her out of the market.
She says she has fought what she calls the “dirty beer battle for 22 years” and believes — just like in previous incidents — she “would come out victorious in this one too”.
Tabitha Karanja was, on Thursday afternoon, driven to the DCI headquarters on Kiambu Road in Nairobi for questioning.
