Police in Marsabit have launched investigations into the death of a man who was shot dead by unknown people in Saku, Marsabit County.

The 32-year-old was shot at the Badassa-Leyai Junction. Confirming the Incident, Marsabit Central Sub-County Police Commander Johnstone Wachira has said officers have been deployed in the area to ensure the perpetrators are arrested.

“Investigations have been launched and the people will be arrested and charged,” Wachira stated.

The body of the deceased was taken to Marsabit County Hospital Referral Morgue.

Further, Marsabit County Commissioner Paul Rotich has announced that plans are underway to compensate and resettle the victims of the clashes.

Operation Rejesha Amani in Marsabit

This comes as peace had started being achieved in the region, especially in the Saku sub-county which has been faced with killings from clan clashes.

Residents in the Saku sub-county have testified of business getting back to normal since the Rejesha Amani operation commenced in May.

On May 2, 2022, the interior affairs CS launched an operation dubbed Rejesha Amani aimed at retrieving illegal firearms and restoring peace, with a dusk to dawn curfew being imposed.

The multi-agency team has been able to recover over 120gun weapons and 3000 rounds of ammunition.

Matiang’i last month announced that the curfew will last until after the August 9 Elections saying they believe weapons are still in the wrong hands and they will ensure they are all recovered.

“We will continue with this assignment until the place remains peaceful. We have made an assurance that until after the General Elections is when the operation shall end. We want peace during the campaigns, elections and even after the elections” Matiang’i stated.
